AMI Marine's charities 2019

Charity work from AMI Marine this year

Team AMI like to do our bit for charity and 2019 has been no exception.

“We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa

MacMillan

This year our team joined in with the MacMillan Coffee Morning. We hosted ‘The Great AMI Bake Off’ once again. Serving up lots of cakes and savory treats to raise money for an amazing charity.

MacMillan are there to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support. You can learn more about their amazing work HERE

Our staff are already deciding what to bake for next year’s coffee morning!

Southampton Hospital Charity

We also supported Southampton Hospital Charity but hosting car parking at our premises for a Southampton FC match. Being so close to Saint Mary’s Stadium means our car park is the perfect place to park. Our Sales Support Manager Lauren has been fundraising for Southampton Hospital Charity throughout the last 2 years. She has completed a marathon and several 10K races. She headed up the team to run the car park raising a fantastic £370!

Southampton Hospital Charity helps to enhance the care and treatment of patients at University Hospital Southampton. They work with supporters to raise money and provide financial support to areas of the hospital service that lie beyond the scope of NHS funding.

Namuwongo Community Foundation (NCF)

We also had to opportunity to host the car parking for a second time. This time we raised £320 for Friends of NCF and AMI Marine matched it to total £640.

Our former employee John Miller is trustee of NCF. John said “I’ve been a trustee for ten years and first visited in 2011.  I got involved because our family sponsored a little boy from the slum so that he could go to school. My most recent visit was November last year.”

Friends of NCF Charity

Namuwongo Community Foundation (NCF) is a small Ugandan charity that operates in the slums of Kampala. It works with vulnerable children from the Namuwongo slum to give them an education, which they would otherwise not receive.

NCF runs a Primary School plus a sponsorship programme for secondary, vocational and higher education. It operates a feeding programme and seeks to empower widows and other underprivileged women by teaching them craft, micro-business skills and life skills.

It is directed by Christine Kasapuli – an inspirational young woman who grew up in the local slum community and was a beneficiary of this project when it was first established in 2000. She was sponsored through her education and now has graduated into the leadership role of this organisation. Christine is a great example of one of our NCF principles – “change a life, change lives.”

Friends of NCF is a small UK registered charity that provides the funding and support for the work of NCF in Uganda.

The Society of St James

This Christmas we have chosen to support The Society of St James. SSJ is a Southampton-based homelessness charity, providing a range of supported living services in Southampton, Portsmouth and across Hampshire. They provide a wide range of support to people from all walks of life experiencing homelessness, problematic alcohol or substance use and mental health problems.

Each of our staff are donating money to provide St James Society with supermarket gift vouchers to give to homeless people this Christmas.

We have had a fantastic 2019 and look forward to 2020.

Have a great holiday season and a happy new year.
