X948 NMEA to Stepper Interface – 48 Steps Per Degree
X948 – 48 STEP PER DEGREE RETRANSMISSION UNIT
The X948 interface converts serial heading data from a modern gyro to a 48 step per degree signal. Applications include refitting a ship with a new gyro, whilst retaining the existing repeaters. Applicable gyro types are earlier C Plath and Anschutz gyro s. Typical repeaters take no more than 0.8 amps per step. The X948 provides a high voltage to rotate the repeaters and then gives a low (RMS) voltage to hold a position at a low current.
All valid NMEA 0183 heading sentences, which most modern gyros and GPS heading sensors etc. provide as standard.

One or two decimal places (or more) are accepted.
|Drive for 2 pole stepper motors. Maximum current 8 Amps total.|
24 volts DC for illumination. 6 pin connectors.
Rotation (follow-up) rate. 5 or 10 degrees per second. Adjustable by jumper.
|Low power single pole change over relay to switch an independent external audible and visual alarm. (not supplied)|
|24 volts DC at 0.2 to 6 Amps depending on load. Auto-reset fuse on the removal of power.|
