X160 Bridge Watch Alarm – BNWAS
The X160 Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) is a monitoring and Alarm system which notifies the master of the ship and other navigational officers whether the officer on watch (OOW) is incapable of performing the watch duties efficiently, which can lead to maritime accidents.
As a vessel’s Bridge requires permanent operating attendance by the Officer of the Watch (OOW), the X160 BNWAS will monitor the bridge and alert the Master or other qualified navigational officers if, for any reason, the OOW becomes incapable or is absent from the bridge. The X160 BNWAS can alert other crew members to the bridge so as to investigate, prevent accidents or even provide medical assistance.
BNWAS warnings are raised in the case of possible incapacity of the watchkeeping officer, due to an accident, sickness or in the event of a security breach such as piracy and/or hijacking. Unless decided by the Master only, the BNWAS shall remain operational at all times when the vessel is under way and record operational data to a vessel’s VDR.
New regulations from IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) requires that a BNWAS complies according to all IMO performance standards. The X160 BNWAS is type-approved according to the Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm Systems legislation, as laid down by the IMO in resolution 128(75) and IEC 62616.
Because of its approvals, all-size vessels and ships can install the X160 BNWAS.
The X160 BNWAS can be provided in a specific scope, so as to meet each individual vessel’s needs. Our team can help you design a tailored system to meet your vessel’s unique requirements.
Advantages
- All requirements, according to IMO 128(75), are in one single housing
- Communication interface to VDR and ECDIS (NMEA)
- Expandable utilizing extra reset buttons
- Reports to the officer’s cabins
- Low-cost installation due to a simple design.
- Dimming function for night voyage.
- The X160 BNWAS is type-approved for ships of all shapes and sizes.
System Main Unit MAR-0001
The MAR-0001 has integrated communication to a VDR and can be connected to the autopilot – though this function must be authorised by each local vessel flag authority. The X160 BNWAS connects to the VDR and records Data via NMEA 1803.
The X160 BNWAS can be expanded with peripheral equipment such as remote reset buttons and PIRs to keep the vessel bridge permanently monitored when underway on a voyage. A Selection Switch unit, MAR-0007, is also an option to expand the Alarm unit to other areas of the vessel to alert relevant navigational duty officers.
- Dimensions 144x72X100 (HxWxD)
- Cut out 138×68 (HxW)
- Power supply 18-28 Vdc
- Current 180mA max
- Four potential-free outputs
- Autopilot input
- Reset input
- BV Type approved
BNWAS Cabin Selector Switch MAR-0007
![]() | The MAR-0007 is an optional Selector Switch which can allow you to Install up to x 6 Alarm Buzzers in multiple locations on-board a vessel. Using this system, operators can select which backup officer cabin is to be alarmed on activation according to duty rosters, or to notify the relevant crew in various non-bridge locations such as the smoke room, library, mess or general crew areas.

BNWAS Alarm Buzzer MAR-0004
Six MAR-0004 can be installed in important locations such as officer’s cabins, mess and more. Available options.

BNWAS Remote Reset Button MAR-0005
![]() | The MAR-0005 is the remote reset panel for resetting the BNWAS in different places on the Bridge. This device can only be installed on Bridge I.A.W IMO in resolution 128(75) and IEC 62616. The Reset Button allows you to Reset the X160 BNWAS from multiple locations before the system alarms.

NMEA Activation Unit MAR-0008
When the autopilot does not provide an “autopilot engaged” hard output, the MAR-0008 NMEA Activation Unit works as an additional input. (this function must be authorised by the local vessel flag authority)
The user can select these features by a dipswitch mounted inside the MAR-0008 NMEA Activation Unit. | ![]() |
BNWAS MCB – Main PCB MAR-0011
![]() | The MAR-0011 is for the BNWAS system. It is not a system-critical item but can help interconnect an X160 BNWAS effectively with other peripheral equipment. This unit can help compensate for faulty wiring and improve system connectivity. |
BNWAS SSCB – Cabin Selector PCB MAR-0013
The MAR-0013 is an extension board for the MAR-0013 Main Connection Terminal, for five buzzer units and two reset units.

BNWAS PIR Sensor 24V MAR-0009
![]() | The PIR (Passive infra–red) Motion Sensor is a pyroelectric device that detects motion by measuring changes in the infrared (heat) levels emitted by crew movement. This device is used to automatically monitor the Vessel’s Bridge attendance environment.
Ceiling Mount or wall-mounted |
BNWAS Remote Reset Watertight MAR-0006
The MAR-0006 is a remote reset unit for resetting the BNWAS in different locations on the Bridge. This device may only be installed within an area of the bridge where clear control of vessel heading is monitored.
