As 2024 draws to a close, now is an excellent time to reflect and evaluate the last 12 months. This past year has been a combination of both highs and lows, with challenges and accomplishments. Our continuous resilience, passion, and determination in overcoming these challenges only demonstrates our extraordinary team spirit!
New Products
This year, AMI Marine has focused on developing several new key products.
Our SMIDS Pro series of THD systems now includes another version which has been specifically designed to comply with the latest legislation of the Panama Canal. As a result of this development, we now offer four versions, providing ship owners with more options.
The SMIDS Pro is Commercial Maritime’s most economical and accurate SDME (Speed Distance Measuring Equipment) system, based on its core function of being a THD (transmitting heading device). It also uses state-of-the-art technology to provide vessel Distance to Berth and Course Prediction options.
BNWAS Changes
This year, BNWAS regulation changed, and this was a tricky hurdle for us to navigate. We know how essential it is to support our existing systems installed on vessels worldwide and simultaneously offer a new solution. We have been working tirelessly to launch the AMI X160 BNWAS. The X160 BNWAS is type-approved according to the Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm Systems legislation, as laid down by the IMO in resolution 128(75) and IEC 62616. Because of its approvals, all ships can install the X160 BNWAS. We also continue to support our previous BNWAS systems, namely the X150 and X810. Additionally, we offer upgrade options for our existing customers to help them get the latest system at the best possible price.
Improving our website
We have also begun a new project to develop our website and give customers direct access to our service partners. Globally, this means AMI customers can communicate in local time with qualified and trusted AMI-approved engineers and action service work quicker and more efficiently.
We continually work to enhance our service department and prioritise our customers’ needs, whilst understanding the importance of promptness and trustworthiness. We aim to ensure that customers can schedule work quickly and have access to high-performing companies within the AMI service network. We take pride in our engineering network, who excel in working on AMI systems and other partner-branded technologies.
Networking in Hamburg
We had a truly great time at SMM this year! The attending team included Martin Grigg, International Service Manager; Oliver Pegrum, UK Technical Manager; Candice Cox, International Training Coordinator and Martin Cox who is Managing Director. This event is always eagerly anticipated and offers an excellent opportunity to meet key industry players and connect directly with customers. This year, we highlighted our new SMIDS Pro series, X2 VDR (& S-VDR), along with our purpose-built workboat mini recorder series.
Approvals & ISO Certificates
We’ve had a busy year developing new products and look forward to continuing this progression in 2025. The SMIDS Pro Panama Pilot System (SYS-0096) approvals are underway and near completion. We have been working with our partners in Panama, Hi Tek Marine, to ensure that our SMIDS Pro is the best Panama-approved pilot system. As SMIDS Pro is the direct upgrade to our top-selling SMIDS MKII Legacy system, we continue to be the industry leaders in THD, SDME, speed log and now piloting technology.
We are happy to have renewed our ISO certification, which is testament to our reliability and trustworthiness as a product manufacturer. Our focus on quality extends to both our products and services, continually inspiring our commitment to ongoing excellence for our customers.
New Faces
This year, we’ve hired three new team members, we now have Dan in the operations team, who works on building our systems and shipping orders. Jonathan started as our new software apprentice engineer, working closely with our technical software team on refining our products and operating systems. In recent times, we have welcomed Gary, who will work as an engineer with the technical team, assisting with in-house projects and attending service calls out in the field.
